DOI Economic Recovery Info
The Department of the Interior has developed a website that provides information on how the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act – ARRA stimulus funds are being spent on individual projects. Specific LiDAR projects being funded with stimulus money are being discussed at this dedicated website sponsored by the USGS. It appears that of the $140 million ARRA funding allocated to the USGS that $14.6 million will be for imagery and elevation data. It certainly is a positive, but I was hoping for more. Intensity Revisited
1. I wanted to highlight an important comment on last week’s “intensity” blog post.
2. Jarlath O’Neil-Dunne from the UVM Spatial Analysis Lab is finding intensity to be a valuable attribute.
3. In high contrast regions LiDAR intensity can provide important clues for land use mapping.

Customer Benefits Not Product Features
1. The 3D laser scanning industry is still being primarily driven by the technology.
2. The technical orgs such as ASPRS and ASTM, although important, are not broad based enough to represent the much larger “pragmatist” portion of the potential market.
3. The primary conversation has to shift from product features to user benefits.
