2009 Digital Mapping Conference
1. MAPPS and ASPRS are teaming up to present a Digital Mapping conference.
2. One of the main themes will be the use of LiDAR.

Open Source Software Licensing
1. ASTM E57.04 is debating the type of open source license that we should adopt.
2. One will require that all work be shared, the other will not.
3. One concern is that by not sharing there will be a number of versions of the format.

Towards a Common Architecture
1. The number one complaint that I hear is that you need a separate software package for every scanner.
2. Is the OGC a possible model for making this happen?
3. Will the scanner manufacturers support this?

GSA Awards Laser Scanning Contracts
1. The high profile IDIQ laser scanning contracts have been awarded.
2. It will be interesting to try to track the amount of work that is actually generated.

The Free Business Model
1. In his new book, Chris Anderson, Editor of Wired Magazine predicts that anything in a digital format will become free.
2. This reminds me of the “dot-com” bubble voodoo economics.
3. I just don’t believe this will happen any time soon in the professional markets.

Where Will 3D LS Rank?
1. We were trying to come up with the top 5 high tech developments since 1980 on the ride home.
2. The PC, Internet, cell phone and GPS were 1 – 4. We could not agree on 5.
3. Some say laser scanning will be bigger than GPS, but can it make it into the consumer world?
