MelaFind – Skin Cancer Breakthrough
Electro Optical Systems is using multispectral scanning and analysis to much more accurately identify melanoma.
The MelaFind system includes the ability to compare the problem area with a known database of 9,000 biopsied lesions.

Definiens announced the creation of an online community aimed at sharing third party technology.

Cost Effective Topcon Scanner for Surveyors
Topcon just announced the GLS-1000 with a price starting at $75,000. It captures data at 3,000 pts./sec. with a 4mm accuracy at 150m. Will this be the catalyst for lower prices?

Quality Control of Derived LiDAR Data
1. The September issue of PE & RS has an important paper on the work being done by Dr. Habib and others.
2. A mathematical methodology is being proposed to assess the quality of derived lidar data and the associated system parameters.
3. The goal of this important research is to produce a set of standards for judging the quality of the derived lidar data.

National Institute of Building Sciences – NIBS
1. NIBS is a non-profit, non-governmental agency that is focused on promoting high performance buildings.
2. Their upcoming Annual Conference is in Washington, DC December 8 – 10 in conjunction with Ecobuild America.
3. There is no mention of laser scanning or 3D in the conference topics.

Commodity Pricing
1. What will it take to drive the price of scanners down to the commodity level?
