2010 ESRI Survey and Engineering GIS Summit
1. This year’s ESRI Survey and Engineering GIS Summit will include multiple LiDAR sessions.
2. It will start 2 days before the User Conference – the largest event of its kind in the world.
3. The sessions will include a technical workshop and keynote featuring a new indoor mobile mapping application.

GSA Laser Scanning IDIQ Update
1. The GSA recently sponsored a by invite only AEC technology conference.
2. Managing the ARRA projects has slowed the use of the laser scanning and BIM IDIQ contracts.
3. The GSA is predicting that the IDIQs will see more use once the ARRA projects wind down.

ASPRS Mobile LiDAR Mapping Meeting
1. The first ASPRS Mobile Mapping System Committee meeting will be held on April 27, 2010.
2. Over 70 people have signed up.
3. A number of important work areas are being proposed. Time is of the essence.

Mobile Mapping Systems Overview
1. A second important article in this month’s PE & RS concerns mobile mapping systems.
2. The ASPRS will host the first meeting of the Mobile Mapping System committee in April.

ILMF Announces ELMF
1. The ILMF conference organizers are launching a new event – ELMF10 this fall in Europe.
2. It will be located in the Hague, Netherlands November 30 and December 1, 2010.
3. The conference will include airborne, bathymetric, mobile and terrestrial.

USGS-NGP Base LiDAR Specification
1. The USGS has developed a “content complete” version of the Base LiDAR Specification.
2. This is to be considered the minimum requirements to be included in the national LiDAR dataset.
3. The data must be fully LAS compliant.

ASPRS Hot Topics at ILMF10
This ILMF10 session included an excellent presentation by Lewis Graham from GeoCue on the basics of mobile mapping. Lewis is one of the true veterans in the LiDAR business, with probably as much hands on experience in working with the data than anyone. Continue reading

2. The first is on the changing need for breaklines when using LiDAR.
3. The second concerns using Adobe Reader to view 3D models.
