Brent Gelhar from Optech correctly pointed out to me that my comment about structured light laser scanners being like a flash LiDAR was well, let’s say, wrong.
The National Science Foundation is funding a two-day workshop June 1-2 at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) in Boulder, Colorado.
Just a quick reference to research that was highlighted in Science magazine last week.
A well done presentation for the boat lovers and those not familiar with laser scanning.
1. The USGS has developed a “content complete” version of the Base LiDAR Specification.
2. This is to be considered the minimum requirements to be included in the national LiDAR dataset.
3. The data must be fully LAS compliant.
This ILMF10 session included an excellent presentation by Lewis Graham from GeoCue on the basics of mobile mapping. Lewis is one of the true veterans in the LiDAR business, with probably as much hands on experience in working with the data than anyone.
1. There are 2 sessions at ILMF10 that caught my attention.
2. The first is on the changing need for breaklines when using LiDAR.
3. The second concerns using Adobe Reader to view 3D models.
1. The international LiDAR mapping community is heading to Denver for LiDAR10.
2. There will be nearly 60 exhibitors – a significant increase over last year.
3. The major tracks will include data acquisition, bathymetric LiDAR, data fusion and mobile.
I just came across a reference to a Wikipedia reference for the National LIDAR Dataset. I had someone ask me last week if I thought LiDAR for the Nation, similar to Elevation for the Nation, was going to happen. I would like to think so, but I just don’t get the sense that the will is there.
