Laser Scanning Submarine Hulls

1. 25 years ago I took a tour of a Los Angeles class fast attack submarine.
2. The hull is covered with rubber tiles to make the sub less detectable with sonar.
3. Creaform has sold the US Navy scanners that can assess the quality of the tiles.

SIG 3D, CityGML and INSPIRE

1. SIG 3D is a special interest group in Europe focused on modeling of cities and urban landscapes.
2. Some of their members have also been elected to the EU’s SDI INSPIRE working groups.
3. They are promoting the use of CityGML as the 3D data standard. The US needs to organize a similar effort.
