Laser Scanning PlugIn for Google SketchUp

I guess it was inevitable, but then again I was really not expecting a point cloud plugin for SketchUp. Kudos to the innovative minds at Laserscanning Europe GmbH for creating Point-Cab.
Need to hear your feedback on this product before I say too much more, but I will say that Google is a scary force.

GSA Awards Laser Scanning Contracts

1. The high profile IDIQ laser scanning contracts have been awarded.
2. It will be interesting to try to track the amount of work that is actually generated.

To Model or Not to Model?

1. That is the key question, at least in terms of project costs.
2. We do not have the luxury of starting from scratch in terms of integrating point clouds with CAD.
3. The operations workflows are the early adopters of working directly with the point cloud.

Is Laser Scanning a Professional Service?

1. If laser scanning is a professional service then should it be covered by the Brooks Act?
2. There is also a related issue with scanning and surveying licensure.
3. If the scanning services are in support of architectural or engineering services then I think Brooks should apply.

1. During the tough times is when new technology should be investigated.
2. The hybrid, robotic total station, digital camera, and low resolution scanner all-in-one at one third the cost of a high resolution scanner is ideal for the small land surveying firm.

` 1. The Glasgow Digital Design Studio is teaming with the medical community to create the world’s most sophisticated 3D virtual body.
2. They intend to use these for training of new surgeons.
3. There have to be other real world training opportunities where laser scanning could be applied.
