1. The high profile IDIQ laser scanning contracts have been awarded.
2. It will be interesting to try to track the amount of work that is actually generated.

BIM and Laser Scanning

1. Quick notes – there is a mobile mapping LinkedIn group forming and it was recommended that ASPRS offer the LiDAR certification.
2. Laser scanning is being incorrectly associated with developing a building information model.
3. Owners need to understand the limitations of the technology.

CityGML

1. The CityGML encoding standard is a rich and valuable road map for building 3D urban geo-databases – kudos to all involved.
2. LiDAR and laser scanning are the most appropriate technology for building out these databases.
3. We can choose to take advantage of this or re-invent the wheel.

OGC 3D Fusion Summit

1. The OGC is sponsoring a one day summit on 3D at MIT on June 23, 2009.
2. A number of the major software players are on the agenda, as well as practicing professionals.
3. Yours truly will present the case for including laser scanning in the planning.

1. Stanford University’s Center for Integrated Facility Engineering is sponsoring a Summer Program.
2. One session will be in DC at the GSA next week and a repeat at Stanford in September.

Neo-3D Laser Scanning

1. Neo-GIS is the less technical, consumer side of the use of the technology.
2. The GSA 3D-4D-BIM program is perhaps an example of how best to position laser scanning technology.

Stimulus Funding Update

1. Both the GSA and USGS have laser scanning and LiDAR projects in the que.
2. The GSA will issue 5 Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contracts and the USGS will focus on elevation data collects.
3. Unfortunately the go-ahead for these projects continues to get delayed.
