A Best Fit Partnership: ClearSkies Geomatics and Phoenix Lidar Systems Partner

Lidar News readers are interested in how innovative companies and individuals are leveraging Phoenix LiDAR 3D technologies to solve their customers’ problems. Lidar News Founder Gene Roe has provided the following interview questions to help the Phoenix LiDAR customers tell their drone lidar story.

Below is how that conversation went.

  1. Can you please provide a brief overview of your professional background (s) and experience, particularly with 3D laser scanning/drone lidar technology, and/or a brief history of the growth of the company and its use of 3D technology? Please include an idea of the timelines.

Founded in 2013, ClearSkies Geomatics specializes in helping clients buy, sell, and rent pre-owned and new survey equipment. We focus largely on manned and unmanned aerial survey gear but also support terrestrial and mobile 3D scanning. In late 2020, ClearSkies Geomatics acquired the AERIALSURVEY.com domain, relaunched the website in 2021, and opened ClearSkies Ltd. in Ireland to serve our EU clients. Over the past 4 years, we have been busy growing the business globally and creating a scalable operation. In 2023, we became a reseller for new Phoenix Lidar Systems. This year, we have added in a new service line focused on short-term rentals. We now own Riegl lidar systems for wide-area mapping which we make available to clients for short-term rentals. We support clients flying drone, helicopter, and small fixed wing platforms with rentals through our partnership with Phoenix Lidar Systems

  1. Can you provide an inventory of some of the primary 3D surveying and mapping hardware and software that your company currently uses, as well as any other related products? Please include an idea of the timeline of purchases.

ClearSkies Geomatics has sold just about every brand and model of lidar and mapping camera over the years. We are manufacturer agnostic and can help guide our clients to the right lidar scanning solution for their budget and applications.

  1. What attracted you to the use of Phoenix Lidar hardware and software? Did you look at other products? Why did you choose Phoenix?

We decided to partner with Phoenix Lidar Systems as a reseller because they offer excellent turnkey integrated lidar systems with easy-to-use software. Phoenix Lidar System’s extensive experience in the unmanned 3D scanning market combined with ClearSkies’ history and experience in the manned aerial survey market allows us both to bring a lidar scanning solution to many different types of clients.

  1. How do you integrate Phoenix Lidar’s products into your customer’s workflows?

At Phoenix LiDAR Systems, they take pride in delivering cutting-edge LiDAR solutions that are meticulously crafted to meet the highest standards of quality and performance. Their dedicated team of experts employs a rigorous systems integration approach, ensuring that every component seamlessly works together to achieve optimal results. Before any Phoenix LiDAR system is sold or rented, it undergoes a comprehensive QA/QC process, which includes thorough calibration and validation by our skilled in-house team of test pilots and post-processing data analysts. This meticulous attention to detail guarantees that each system arrives at our customer’s doorstep ready to tackle the most challenging projects with unparalleled accuracy and efficiency, empowering our customers to unlock the full potential of LiDAR technology and revolutionize their data acquisition workflows.

  1. What do you see in the future for the use of Phoenix Lidar’s 3D technology on your projects? Are you investigating other advanced technologies that will create new business opportunities?

We are excited about our partnership with Phoenix Lidar Systems where we offer their integrated 3D laser scanning systems through the AERIALSURVEY.com portal. Whether clients are flying projects with drones, doing corridor mapping, forestry work, city mapping or coastal surveying, we know we can partner with Phoenix Lidar to provide a best fit 3D scanning solution. We are particularly excited to support Phoenix as they bring their Ultrapod and their new Halo series of lidar systems to the manned aerial market. This new lidar scanner offers a unique opportunity to get into manned aerial lidar acquisition with a helicopter or small fixed wing at an affordable price point.
