This was a paper that was presented last year at the 3D Digital Documentation Summit held July 10-12, 2012 at the Presidio, San Francisco, CA. It is accompanied by a 25 minute video that explains in detail the methods and results of this very well done comparative research project.
Bottom line – they found that both methods were capable of producing the desired results. It’s definitely worth a look. There are very few studies like this being published.
