NOTRE DAME REBUILDING – Building Documentation’s Critical Role
USIBD Members Describe Building Documentation’s Critical Role in the Rebuilding Notre Dame
Tustin, California – April 21, 2018 – Members of the U.S. Institute of Building Documentation (USIBD) have been lending their perspective about the role of Building Documentation in the rebuilding of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris from the recent devastating fire.
USIBD’s president John M. Russo, AIA was interviewed yesterday for an article in Engineering News-Record (ENR) about the critical role Building Documentation will play in shortening the reconstruction timeframe and answering questions about the existing conditions. The 3D scan data was gathered of the Cathedral by a team in 2015, headed up by the late art history professor Andrew Tallon of Vassar College in 2015, including precise measurements, colors, even slight deviations in the structure, for engineering purposes. Member Dan Edelson of STEREO was interviewed by CNN Style, and discussed the accuracy that restorers will be able to use from Tallon’s scans as well, noting that the data is a “very accurate representation to the level that until a few years nobody could do.” Read the full article here.
USIBD’s many working committees develop documents, surveys, reports, amongst the resources it provides for the Building Documentation Community.
