Steady progress continues to be made by the ASTM E57.04 Data Interoperability subcommittee. The adoption process is continuing with Intelisum, Riegl, Trimble, Pointools, Bentley Systems, Faro, Leica Geosystems and others announcing software support for the laser scanning data exchange standard. On the technical side the recent discussions have focused on extensions. We have recently agreed on a procedure for having an extension listed on the website. Before we agree to modify the core standard we think it will be a good idea to try out the concept using an extension.
One of the subcommittee members recently attended a UNAVCO workshop where he was able to spread the word about the benefits of the ASTM E57.04 standard. This influential group of research universities were very interested in the work that is being done.
Finally, the subcommittee is considering how best to add compression to the standard.We welcome your input on this important topic.
