  • “With multiple vendors involved in an event of this magnitude, it was imperative that everyone be on the same page, literally. TruePoint provided the exact data required to help Ralph Lauren map out a picture-perfect event.” – Nate Baker, Northeast Regional Manager

Location: New York, New York

Task: Plans were in the works for Ralph Lauren to transform Central Park’s Bethesda Terrace into the backdrop for a runway show and elegant dinner for 500+ guests. In order to successfully orchestrate a 50th Anniversary party of this scale, having an accurate site map was crucial for the multiple vendors who would be involved with the event. TruePoint was hired to laser scan the entire outdoor area, capturing point cloud data to create a site map plan.

Challenge: In order to best capture accurate 3D point cloud data from the open, outdoor Central Park area, including the iconic Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, 3D laser scanning needed to be completed during the day. However, since the park remained open to hundreds of New Yorkers who enjoy the park daily, TruePoint professionals had to work around them.

Solutions: Using the Leica ScanStation P40, TruePoint 3D Laser Scanning captured the entire, outdoor area. The point cloud data collected was then “cleaned” to omit irrelevant data points and “noise”. (i.e. all of the people in the park.) We then provided the Ralph Lauren team with a 3D representation of the park area in order to accurately plan for the event. The point cloud data can also be uploaded into software programs for virtual exploration and event planning. This allows the planning team to revisit the site without physically being there.

Deliverable: TruePoint professionals delivered 3D point cloud files and a scan location plan to the client. These files can be used in conjunction with software built by TruePoint to produce scan location plans that can seamlessly be uploaded into a client model without overwhelming their computer.

Added Value: TruePoint’s proprietary scan location plan service is scalable from small projects to complicated scanning projects with thousands of setup locations. These scan location markers can be created with additional embedded data, such as date or time of scan. This system is great for facility management on large sites like refineries or large-scale construction projects.

TruePoint is a highly experienced team of 3D laser scanning professionals who deliver exceptional service, accurate data, and custom deliverables to expedite your project. TruePoint can quickly mobilize to your site and provide free project estimates.
