Now this is extremely helpful. Thanks to the people behind the open source CloudCompare project for recently adding the ASTM E57 data exchange format to their list of supported formats. This means there is now a free viewer for ASTM E57 data – exciting, plus the ability to compare point clouds (or a triangular mesh) from different vendors. See this screen shot.

From the website, “It relies on a specific octree structure that enables great performances1 in this particular function. It was also meant to deal with huge point clouds (typically more than 10 millions points, and up to 120 millions2 with 2 Gb of memory).” The software then automatically highlights the differences in the point clouds.
