CyArk has launched the America 250 Tapestry Collection, a digital heritage initiative celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary. The project uses 3D gaussian splatting to recreate three historically significant sites that visitors can explore through a web browser.

This project leverages CyArk’s open-access, web-based storytelling platform, allowing users to experience virtual first-person walkthroughs natively within a web browser without specialized hardware.
The sites include the Revolutionary-era George Wythe House in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia; the 1926 Rosenwald Historic Russell School in Hillsborough, North Carolina; and O’Hara’s Restaurant and Pub, a post-9/11 sanctuary located near Ground Zero in New York City.
To capture these environments on foot, field teams utilized the handheld XGRIDS PortalCam spatial camera for interior spaces alongside aerial drone sensors for surrounding exteriors.
On the delivery end, the platform relies on advanced infrastructure including the PlayCanvas Engine, World Labs’ Spark.js renderer over WebGPU, compressed SPZ and SOGS asset formats, and Cesium 3D Tiles streaming for real-time performance.

A Faster Approach to Heritage Documentation

By embedding narrated audio by local interpreters and testimony from historical alumni, the collection transforms into living histories. This helps anyone with internet access to explore physical environments with realistic accuracy.
