Geomatics Career at West Point

If you are looking for a truly once in a lifetime, geomatics career opportunity please read on. Having visited the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY this spring I can tell you there is a 200+ year old spirit that pervades this incredible facility. If only I were 40 years younger.

This information was supplied by good friend and faculty member at the Academy, Matt O’Banion.

The Geospatial Information Science (GIS) Program at West Point is looking to hire a full time lab technician comfortable with modern surveying equipment (e.g., total stations, differential levels, GNSS, sUAS), computers, and geospatial software packages. The new hire would work closely with myself and the rest of the West Point GIS faculty to maintain and manage our computer lab(s) and specialized equipment. Responsibilities would also include assisting with the set up and delivery of various surveying labs and classroom exercises.

It is advertised as a federal GS-9 to GS-11 position, which equates to a annual salary of $59k to $93K when taking into account the NY locality adjustment. Here is a link to the USA Jobs listing and it will be live until September 9th: https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/543592800

Please forward this on to anyone you think would be interested.

Welcome to the GIS Program!
The military increasingly relies on geospatial technology and data to achieve information dominance on the battlefield. Examples include: GPS, satellite imagery, real-time force tracking, sensor integration, and massive geographic databases.

To dominate on the battlefield, the Army’s transformed fighting forces depend on leaders who understand the capabilities and limitations of geospatial technologies.

Majoring in Geospatial Information Science gives future Army Officers, regardless of branch, the knowledge set to leverage these tools when leading soldiers in our high tech digital Army.

The Geospatial Information Science Major is accredited by the United States Geospatial-Intelligence Foundation (USGIF). We are a certified Center of Academic Excellence for Geospatial Sciences.
