LiDAR Mixed Pixels Issue: Challenges and Solutions

I just became aware of an issue with some scanners concerning mixed pixels. The issue being when the laser beam hits an edge and splits. This can cause very strange behavior in the point cloud.

One solution is to use a filtering scheme to remove the false data, but the concern was raised that this could cause the loss of real returns such as those that might be from thin wires.

Does anyone have any experience with this?
