Many Revit users that do not have an issue with point clouds in Autodesk ReCap find those same files will cause performance issues in Revit, even with a high end computer.

Depending on the size and density of point clouds that you work with, typically if your computer can open the file in ReCap, it should be able to open it in Revit without crashing. However, just being able to load the file into Revit is not good enough, if you cannot comfortably work with it.
After doing a number of tests with loading point clouds into Revit using different settings, we found the following solution to improving performance in Revit after performing a small setup.
Step 1 – You will have to disable the tick from the “Snap to Point Clouds” function. To do this click on the “Manage” button at the top of the screen where you will find the “Snaps” function on the top left side of the screen. Click on it and you will have a pop-up window coming up where you will have the “Snap to Point Clouds” function with a tick box next to it.
Step 2 – Position the cloud into the required place and align it vertically.
Step 3 – Lock the cloud using the pin tool located in the Modify / Point Clouds tab.
Step 4 – On the bottom right corner of the screen press on the orange pin button to disable the selection of pinned elements.
All the steps are now complete. Point cloud performance should be much smoother even on the less advanced computers. If performing these steps does not solve the problem, you may want to check the specifications of your computer to see if it has enough RAM, CPU and GPU to handle the task.
