A Software to Simulate Surveying in Virtual Reality
A Software to Simulate Surveying in Virtual Reality
The UESI Surveying & Geomatics Education Division is inviting you to participate in a series of virtual events that started in 2020 when we began working in a virtual environment. Our webinars and panels are free, informative, and exciting events introduced by versatile speakers who are leaders in their field.

This presentation will present the creation and implementation of surveying engineering laboratories in virtual reality. We will discuss data collection using unmanned aerial systems and terrestrial laser scanners in order to create the virtual environment. We will present how laboratories are developed in virtual reality, including creation of relevant exercises, user control and interaction with surveying instruments and virtual environment. Finally, we will discuss the pedagogical contribution of virtual reality technology in surveying education. The Surveying Reality (SurReal) software was developed at Penn State Wilkes-Barre to address instructional challenges in surveying such as cancelled labs due to weather, limitation to conduct labs in the city, training in different terrain environments, etc.
