Hallowell, Maine – April 2, 2019 – Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce the winner of the 2018-2019 Academic Scholarship and to introduce the scholarship program for the 2019-2020 school year. Open to any undergraduate or graduate student, the impetus behind this annual program is to encourage students to explore the full depth of functionality available in Blue Marble’s software while expanding their core competency in the field of GIS.

Blue Marble’s GIS software is used by hundreds of thousands of satisfied customers throughout the world who need affordable, user-friendly, yet powerful GIS solutions. Users come from a wide range of industries including software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as government departments and academic institutions.

After reviewing all of the 2018-2019 entries, the scholarship selection committee has chosen James Heslington as the winner of the $500 award. James is a student in the Surveying and Land/Environmental Management program at the Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter in southwest England. His research project focuses on the representation and interpretation of geophysical data, with special emphasis on the legacy mine site of Poldice in Cornwall. Congratulations to James from the Blue Marble Team.

The announcement of the 2019-2020 scholarship program coincides with the annual American Association of Geographers conference in Washington DC. During this weeklong event, Blue Marble representatives will be on hand to talk about the company’s generous academic licensing options, the availability of free instructional resources, and about the $500 scholarship award. Participants in the scholarship have until the end of the year to submit their work, which can be in the form of a written thesis, project report, or poster on any topic or theme.

“At Blue Marble, we understand the financial challenges faced by both academic institutions and by students,” stated Patrick Cunningham, Blue Marble President. “We are pleased that we can help by offering a scholarship award to a deserving student and by providing low- or no-cost software to colleges and universities.”
