Blue Marble Releases Service Pack 1 Geographic Calculator 2019 with Updates
Blue Marble Releases Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Geographic Calculator 2019 with Updates and Improvements Throughout the Application
Hallowell, Maine – June 4, 2019 – Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com) has released a service pack update to its coordinate conversion and datum transformation software — Geographic Calculator 2019. This upgrade introduces new file format and data access options, a new batch processing tool for area calculation, convenient access to recently used files, and more.
Now in its 27th year of development, Geographic Calculator is widely recognized as the bellwether for accurate coordinate and datum management and has become the go-to application for countless companies and organizations for whom locational precision is essential.
The latest service pack release offers new file format and data access options including support for Open Document Spreadsheet (ODS) files generated in the OpenOffice suite. The Area Calculation tool, which is used to precisely determine polygon coverage from known bounding coordinate values, now offers a batch processing option allowing multiple simultaneous calculations. For convenient access to frequently used files, each of the file load dialog boxes now includes a Recently Used Files list eliminating the need to manually navigate to the file location.
The foundation of Geographic Calculator’s geodetic data processing functionality is the embedded GeoCalc datasource. Universally regarded as the most extensive collection of coordinate system definitions, transformation algorithms, and other geodetic parameters, the datasource is continually updated to ensure accuracy and precision in every calculation. For the 2019 SP1 release, the datasource now includes the new Equal Earth projection by cartographer Tom Patterson and has been updated to reflect the latest definitions from the EPSG version 9.6.3.
Also added to the datasource is support for the Brazilian ANP formatting of geodetic degree units as well as the option to bulk export geodetic parameters to WKT format. For Esri software users, Geographic Calculator now includes the option to import and export geodetic information from Esri PE Database files ensuring the streamlined sharing of coordinate definitions across the two platforms.
“The revisions to the North American datums, scheduled for 2022, have resulted in a significant upsurge in interest in the importance of geodetic data management,” stated Patrick Cunningham, Blue Marble President. “The ongoing development of Geographic Calculator as exemplified by the 2019 SP1 release, will ensure that the application will be ready to meet the needs of location-based data managers when the 2022 changes are implemented.”
Blue Marble Application Specialists will be conducting a live webinar on Thursday, June 20th during which they will showcase the highlights of Geographic Calculator 2019 SP1. This hour-long presentation is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. (U.S. Eastern Time), and it will provide an opportunity to see the latest tools and to ask questions about the new functionality. Space is limited and registration is required, so be sure to sign up today.
