Phoenix LiDAR Systems Releases its latest survey-grade LiDAR system for commercial grade drones, the RECON-XTA

Austin, TX — March 1, 2024 — Phoenix LiDAR Systems, an industry leader in providing custom UAV and Mobile Mapping LiDAR solutions, has released its latest survey-grade LiDAR system for commercial grade drones, the RECON-XTA . Designed exclusively to pair with the Freefly Systems ASTRO industrial drone using the open source Smart Dovetail quick release system, the RECON-XTA sets a new standard in performance, reliability, ease of use, and value.

The RECON-XTA is a breakthrough technology in complete LiDAR solutions. The system is capable of survey-grade accuracies, dense vegetation penetration, while retaining a minimalist, light-weight profile. In addition to the lightweight and compact ASTRO UAV airframe integration, Phoenix LiDAR Systems has made the RECON-XTA compatible with a wide array of accessories like backpacks, SLAM handles, and even mobile mapping roof racks.

“We are thrilled to work with an industry leader such as Freefly Systems and support other US-based businesses like ours to provide LiDAR systems for survey and mapping clients throughout the world.” said CEO Grayson Omans, “We strive to provide robust and performance-oriented solutions for nearly every segment of the industry.”

We are thrilled to see Phoenix Lidar utilizing the open-source Smart Dovetail payload connector to allow for quick and easy use of their popular RECON-XTA lidar on the Freefly Systems ASTRO drone. This integration not only streamlines the integration process but also opens up new possibilities for ASTRO operators to leverage advanced, survey-grade LiDAR sensing technology” says Matt Isenbarger, CRO, Freefly Systems.

The company, which was the first to offer a UAV LiDAR solution, that is, LiDAR on a drone, recently announced several other “firsts,” including the first quick-release dual-head mobile mapping LiDAR solution which they call the RANGER FLEX RFM2-UAV22, and the last version of their LiDAR processing software, dubbed SpatialExplorer 8.0.
