Ideal for large area terrain mapping, the Leica RealTerrain reality capture solution enables the efficient completion of wide-area LiDAR projects. Collect and process data with the combination of the Leica SPL100 hybrid single-photon LiDAR which captures 6 million points per second with 100 output beams, and Leica HxMap, the high-performance multi sensor post-processing workflow. The efficiency gained by SPL100 acquisition and HxMap data processing enables larger area LiDAR data acquisition for applications such as dense vegetation mapping and change detection.

Woolpert, a leading national architecture, engineering and geospatial firm, was contracted by USGS and NOAA to capture the Big Island of Hawaii. A long-time partner of Leica Geosystems, the firm selected the Leica RealTerrain solution to capture and process the data at levels that exceeded the QL1 standard.

“We have a strong working relationship and certain comfort level with Leica Geosystems. This was a major reason for us selecting the SPL100 for this project,” said said Mike Meiser, Woolpert project manager. “Our familiarity with the workflows has enabled us to be more efficient and provide faster results.”
