Welcome to the first post at the “In the Scan” blog! Now the first item of business is to establish a few ground rules.

·         Item #1 – Think Positive. We are on the ground floor of what is destined to be one of the most important technologies in the history of surveying and measurement. It reminds me of the early days of GIS and GPS. 3D laser scanning has the potential to radically change the workflows that it touches. It is disruptive technology, and as early adopters we have the “first to market” advantage. Of course this comes with a level of risk, but successful entrepreneurs are people who can figure out how to minimize that risk, and create successful business ventures.

·         Item #2 – This blog is going to be all about alerting readers to opportunity. My goal is to become a valuable resource that helps you identify and develop 3D laser scanning business opportunities, while promoting the overall 3D imaging industry.

·         Item #3 – My favorite business saying is, “The only problem with doing something right the first time is that no one appreciates how difficult it was”. I will apply all of my experience to providing you with actionable information, and insights that allow you to make highly informed business decisions – not just report news for the sake of it.

·         Item #4 – In order to be successful with this, I will need your support. Please feel free to make others aware of this blog. Word of mouth is the best advertising, and as we all know the Internet offers virtually unlimited potential for building a 3D laser scanning community. The trick is to turn that potential into reality. I encourage you to provide me with your feedback, and look forward to a really exciting ride.
