USIBD Announces the Release of LOA Specification Version 3.1 and Launches New Website with Education Center

[Tustin, CA] — January 21, 2025— The U.S. Institute of Building Documentation (USIBD) is excited to announce the release of Version 3.1 of its groundbreaking Level of Accuracy (LOA) Specification, along with the launch of its newly designed website and Education Center, a hub for industry professionals seeking advanced training and certification.

USIBD LOA Spec 3.1

The LOA Specification has been a cornerstone of building documentation practices since its introduction in 2014. As the most downloaded document on the USIBD website, the LOA Specification provides a universal framework for defining and achieving accuracy in building documentation. The latest Version 3.1, set for release in January 2025, introduces graphical enhancements, improved clarity in technical content, and a practical approach to converting between tolerance and standard deviation, addressing the real-world needs of AECO professionals.

The LOA Specification is more than a technical document—it’s a critical tool for ensuring precision and consistency in building documentation,” said John Russo, Founder of the USIBD. “The updates in Version 3.1 reflect our commitment to evolving standards that meet the practical needs of industry professionals.

Highlights of LOA Specification Version 3.1:

  • Improved Graphics: Enhanced visuals throughout the document for better usability.
  • Simplified Tolerance Computation: A new, practical method for converting between tolerance and standard deviation, ensuring compatibility with field measurement and fabrication standards.
  • Refined Content: Updates to language and layout improve readability and understanding.

Introducing the New USIBD Website and Education Center

In tandem with the release of LOA Specification Version 3.1, the USIBD is proud to unveil its newly redesigned website and Education Center, a comprehensive platform for professional development. The Education Center launches with on-demand training and certification programs, starting with the LOA v3.1 training and certification. These offerings represent the first step in building a structured certification pathway, including the forthcoming Building Documentation Professional (BDP) and Building Documentation Technologist (BDT) credentials.

Features of the New Education Center:

  • On-demand, self-paced learning tailored to building documentation professionals.
  • Certification opportunities for LOA training with more courses to follow.
  • A roadmap for achieving BDP and BDT certifications, setting new standards for industry excellence.

“The launch of the Education Center is a pivotal moment for the USIBD,” said USIBD President Brendan Welsh. “It aligns with our mission to advance standards, foster professional growth, and provide accessible resources to the building documentation community.

A Call to Action for Industry Professionals

The USIBD invites industry professionals to download the LOA Specification Version 3.1 for free from its website and explore the Education Center’s growing library of courses. As a membership-driven organization, the USIBD encourages practitioners to join the Institute and contribute to the development of standards that shape the future of building documentation.
